Hello Everyone,
This will be a short message as much has not happened this week.
Let's just keep it "General Comments".
On Monday Bob Levi and I attended a postal summit sponsored by the
EMA
Foundation, the institute for Postal Studies. The session was all day
and the topic was "Building the Postal Service of the 21st Century".
The speakers ranged from PMG Potter, DPMG Donahoe, Michael Critelli,
former CEO of Pitney Bowes, Gene DelPolito of Postcomm, and Dan Blair
the Chairman of the Postal Regulatory Commission and several other
speakers representing the mailers. Some of the topics were: PAEA and
the Changes in the USPS Business Model; Transforming the Enterprise,
Keeping Cost Low and Service High; Postal Strategies, Dealing with
New
Business Models; Service Standards and Mailing Requirements and the
reaction of the Mailing Community; Developing an Evolutionary Processing
and Distribution Network; and the Role of the Regulator. It was a very
interesting session and we had a chance to network with most of the
attendees.
As some of you may have already seen and heard there was a hearing
this
week in the Senate about GPO/WEP. We submitted written testimony. I
asked Retired Postmaster of Framington, Ma., Greta Cofield to testify
for NAPUS. You can review Greta's testimony on the NAPUS Webpage under
Government relations. Greta's Senator, John Kerry, was the chairman
of
the committee having the hearing.
I have had several emails this week about the status of FLSA. We are
having a meeting on the 4th to get the response from Postal headquarters
on the issues we brought forward. Also, on the 4th we will present
to
the postal service another proposal on WSC's. In our proposal we will
also submit a new Form 150 that will detail credits for the actual
work
that postmasters do.
As I said I wanted to keep this short. I hope everyone has a great
Veteran's Day. Never forget the people who have fought to keep us free.
Thanks. THINK GOOD THOUGHTS!
Dale
