Calling All Postmasters!
It’s time to pack your bags and head for the
North Carolina NAPUS annual State Convention!

Get ready to enjoy a good time at the beach with fellow Postmasters and the rest of our NC NAPUS family!
As you know, this year we’ll be staying at the Sheraton Inn, 2717 W. Fort Macon Road · Atlantic Beach, NC 28512. This hotel offers clean, comfortable rooms and a location on the beach. If you fancy seafood, well there are a wide array of local dining choices, along with our American favorites. There is shopping nearby and don’t forget the lighthouses and tours.
At the Sheraton Inn, you may choose from room prices starting at $129 per night. All guests are welcome to utilize the in-ground pool or walk just steps to the ocean front and lounge in the warm sand. The Sheraton Inn website is www.sheratonatlanticbeach.com if you would like to book your hotel room or take a few moments to view the wonderful ocean scenery. When booking your reservations, please do not forget to mention the NAPUS group for your discount rate. The hotel phone number is 1-800-624-8875
Sunday, June 7th:
Executive Board will meet on Sunday. President Drew will contact the board with time and room. All members are invited to attend the board meetings to stay abreast of chapter business. Non-board members are permitted to observe only. If you have business to bring to the Chapter Board for consideration, you must contact the president for proper channels.
Registration desk will open on Sunday at noon. Full registration will include attendance to all general sessions, training sessions, plus lunch on Monday and Tuesday, and the banquet on Tuesday evening. Extra meal tickets are available for guests who do not register for the full event. Tickets are required for each meal event; name badges are required to attend convention sessions.

The Memorial Service will be Sunday evening at 5:00. This very moving and honorable event is set aside each year to pay tribute to fellow postmasters who have deceased since our last convention. It is urgent to provide the names of any postmaster who has passed since last June to Dinah Marshall, Secretary Treasurer. She will coordinate the list, make necessary membership changes, and provide the list to the Memorial Chairperson. The NAPUS Auxiliary will provide dinner again this year to registered conventioneers and Auxiliary members. Those not registered for the convention, and spouses not members of the Auxiliary may purchase dinner tickets for $25 each. The dinner is always such a special treat and followed again this year by their exciting Auction.

For the newcomers, NAPUS Auxiliary is the Organization for spouses and guest of Postmasters. Membership involves a $5 per year membership fee, and participation in fund raising events sponsored by the Auxiliary. This is how the Auxiliary raises the money to pay for the Sunday night dinner each year. And we all know how much fun they are! Everybody is encouraged to bring items to be auctioned. They can be old, gently used, and brand new! They can even be what you bought last year in your weak moment! Pull out the Christmas
gift you got but hate, find some of that postal paraphernalia you’ve collected all these years, make a craft item, bring whatever you want and we guarantee a sale for it! Remember, this is how the Auxiliary makes the money to feed us – let us all bring an item or two, and bring $$$ to have fun with! And mark the time so that you will be present. You would not want to miss the fun!

Monday, June 8th:
Registration open again. General sessions in the mornings, panel discussion with district leaders. District Managers and all POOM are invited.
Send questions you need answered to Drew who will moderate the discussion.
Training workshops in the afternoon. Follow program agenda

Tuesday, June 9th
Registration open again. General sessions in the AM and training sessions in the PM.
The Chapter will conduct business such as resolutions, constitution changes, time and place for future conventions. We will elect new officers for the next year. Tuesday at lunch: Retirees will enjoy private dining area, and have invited first timers to be their guests! Retirees are planning a special recognition of all first timers. Following lunch, first timers will leave to participate in training sessions, retirees will continue with their meeting and fellowship. Tuesday Night – the Dance! Back by popular demand! An informal dinner and dance with music! We promise a special surprise that will guarantee your participation and entertainment.

Wednesday, June 10th:
General Sessions and Committee Reports. Time and Place for future conventions announced. Presentation of scholarship awards, golf awards. Drawing for raffles and prizes.
Installation of New Chapter Officers
Closing remarks, adjournment by noon.

Classes:

Rural/City Training .............HR Open Discussion...... Retirement Counseling
Personal Finance/ID Theft.. Dance............................ Report Management
Ebay.................................. eCareers NPA

This is just a tentative agenda, and any of it is subject to change up until the time it happens. You know as postmasters that stuff happens and we deal with it. We are the world’s greatest improvisers! However, there is one thing that is guaranteed NOT to change, and that is this: You will have the time of your life. You will never forget the experience. You will establish friendships that will last forever. You will gain advance knowledge of postal programs and news. Your vision for your personal future career will expand. You will get one-on-one training that you can really use. You will gain extended skills, knowledge and ability to be the very best. You will be proud of who you are and what you do for your customers. You will take pride in your position of postmaster. You will be proud that you ARE the Postmaster! This is an event that you don’t want to miss.

Dear NAPUS Editor,
We have dates for the 2009 NAPUS National Convention in Alaska. They are September 12th through 17th, 2009. To find out more information about when, where and what to do in Anchorage and other parts of Alaska, go to www.anchorage.net. You have time to gather information and make your plans.
We especially want to let you know that we have started a travel site to raise money for the 2009 Convention expenses and would like all of you to help us by using this site to book your travel etc. to St. Louis, Anchorage and any other places you may be going. It works just like Orbitz or Travelocity but the Alaska Chapter of NAPUS gets a small fee from it. Check it out at www.ytbtravel.com/alaskanapus.
All of us in the Alaska NAPUS Chapter are so excited about having you all come and visit. There will be lots to do, you just have to research it and find what works for you. In St. Louis we will have a booth with lots of information about Anchorage, cruise lines, train tours etc. We will also be fund raising so stop by and check us out.
We will be signing people up to help us with all the work there is to do, so if any of you will have some time to help please stop at the Alaska Booth in St. Louis and sign up.
Thanks and we look forward to seeing you all in St. Louis and Anchorage.

PS: There is a great article about Alaska in the AARP magazine for May/June 2008 starting on page 82.
